Week 13
Week in Review
Monday March 26, 2018
Today we woke up a little earlier than usual because the morning class was assigned homework. We all took it as men and decided to make the best of it. As Soldiers of Spring ‘18, we are responsible for each other. We all went to our dorms like soldiers on a mission and got straight to work.
Usually Monday is reserved for our public speaking class, Toastmasters, but many of us are behind on our computer lab assignments, so class was canceled. Although many of us were looking forward to giving speeches and impressive oratories, needed changes were made to our schedule. Staying true to our name, we put a spring in our step and looked on the bright side: we were given another opportunity to practice patience, positivity and productivity.
We’re very close to graduation, and soon we’ll be on another journey as Servant-Leaders. We have looked back on everything we’ve learned in the program and how we have become better men, knowing that all of us are still growing and believing that we will be successful men in the future.

Today we welcomed the new class of Fall ’18. We did a lot of dancing around to lighten up the mood for them. We also took a lot of pictures of everything that was taking place. You could tell that the class was really into it, as they appeared to be enjoying themselves very much. We also handed out parole letters so that they could send them to parole if they chose to.
Our In-Prison Manager Pat M. also spoke to the class about his life story, which was a great testimony about how the Prison Entrepreneurship Program changed him for the better. Pat told us how this journey was not going to be a cake walk; only the strong will make it. After he was done, we had the new class of Fall ’18 ask the participants of Spring ’18 what we thought of the program. To summarize, we told them that if you apply yourselves, you will be a better version of yourself. Furthermore, we said that this was an amazing experience. Thankfully everyone was in agreement.

We had an awesome time in Bert S.’s class today. We started with our test as usual, even though Chapter 9 was a little challenging. But we made it through and now we’re moving on to our business plans. We are trying to put the pieces together before we have our Business Plan Workshop event on the April 7th. Bert S. always gives us the best input on our businesses and all of us in Spring ’18 truly appreciate his time and honesty.
We’re closing in on our graduation day very soon and the chapters are becoming even more intense. As we move forward in our learning, the information we receive becomes easier to retain and more valuable. In closing, my words of encouragement will be to stay humble, take your time, and it’s all going to be worth it. Great job, Spring ’18!

Today was the Kickoff event for Fall ’18. It was an exciting day and it brought back great memories. Back in September, our Spring ’18 event really opened our eyes to the love that all of the executives have for us. We realized that there are people outside of these walls that care for us. Some had actually spent quite a bit of time in prison as well. The whole experience was both extraordinary and reassuring.
We welcomed the class of Fall ’18 with open arms, and we all hope that Fall ’18 gets what the Soldiers of Spring ’18 got out of it. There’s no doubt that the event exceeded our expectations. Overall, it was a great day for everyone, even for the people who were back in the dorms.
Soldiers of Spring ’18, keep pushing forward and remember that graduation is right around the corner. The journey will continue and soon we will be Servant-Leaders. Come on, June 8th!

Unfortunately we didn’t have class today. However, I am sure that Spring ’18 will all agree that this time off was much-needed. It gave us an opportunity to recuperate from the long week that we endured. It also allowed us to catch up on other assignments that we’ve had. Many of us have also taken the opportunity to help our brothers who might be struggling, because when it comes to the Soldiers of Spring ’18, no man gets left behind.
It’s amazing what one day off does for us. These are the moments when we get to relax and put our minds at ease, so when the next week comes along, we’re firing on all cylinders. Get ready Spring ’18; Living in the Village is next up on the list.

“We can choose to be affected by the world or we can choose to affect the world.”
~ Heidi Willis
One thing that I truly believe is that we shouldn’t allow the circumstances of the world dictate our feelings and how we treat people. Some things may simply be out of our control. If we have the desire to do well and promote love and happiness, we have the potential to bring positivity to the world. Nevertheless, we cannot change the inevitable. The only thing that we can do is to play on the string that we have, which is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it. In the end, we always have a choice.
