Week 7

Week in Review

Monday February 12, 2018

We were anxious to get to class today, due to the cancellation of our Living in the Village class on Friday. Once Toastmasters began, we were back to learning how to present a speech. We had a great speech from our brother, Robert F., which caught our attention. It really is good to hear our brothers speak, because it prepares us for our event this Saturday. Once class was over, we were given a new assignment. Even though it’s more work, the assignment came with a calculator to help us, which will also save us time doing the math for our commissary lists.

Today was an awesome day. We learned about the Economics of One Unit (EOUs), which shows the profitability of one unit of your business. Terms like “sales,” “cost of goods sold,” “overhead” and “break-even point” were brought to our attention. All of this is important because these are what goes into your income statement, sometimes called a Profit & Loss Statement, which of course is very important to an entrepreneur. The end result: your net profit and Return on Investment (ROI), which are a vital part of business. As our business skills develop, we continue to march forward in as Soldiers of Spring ’18.

Today was a very exciting day for all of us in Bert S.’s class. He was calling us up to the front of the room randomly to present our Venture Capital Panel (VCP) pitches. Not everyone was able to give their pitch, but we were all ready to get called up. We all felt good about our pitches. We really enjoyed listening to everyone’s pitches and were glad Bert S. let us practice. So, come this Saturday, we will all be ready and well prepared for the visiting executives.

Today was super busy. We were all working on our speeches and trying to memorize them. We had practice panels going on in our pods today. A lot of us still need work, but for the most part, we have it down. In addition, we were called out to the Computer Lab, and we had the opportunity to work on our Economics of One Unit (EOUs) assignments. In the beginning they were kind of hard, but with the help of our servant leaders, we got it. Overall, we had a great day with our PEP brothers.

After missing last week due to a staff member being ill (hope you’re feeling better, Greg P.!), we welcomed back our fearless leader Greg P. After all the formalities, it was time to get down to business. We tested on Chapters Two and Three from Living in the Village. Most of us were looking past the test and thinking about our Venture Capital Panel (VCP) event tomorrow.

In addition, we had a few brothers to pray-out. We were glad to see them leave here and venture out into the free world. Good luck, guys! Remember that you now have a support team for those rough times. The highlight of the morning was meeting the new class of Fall ‘18. Good luck guys, and enjoy the journey before you!

“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”

~ John F. Kennedy

We all face many obstacles in our lifetime, but it is how we react to such things that builds our character. We can either choose to give up and turn the other way, or we can choose to make a difference in our lives. Change isn’t easy, brothers! It won’t happen overnight, but if you’re ready for a better way of living, then change is the only direction that matters.
