Week 6
Week in Review
Monday February 5, 2018
Today was a great official first day of Toastmasters. All of the speakers did a wonderful job with their speeches. The class as a whole did great with participation. My brothers had a good time engaging in Toastmasters. We the Soldiers of Spring ‘18 look forward to all the future events in Toastmasters.

We spent today preparing for Bert S.’s test tomorrow. You can tell by the atmosphere in the pod that everyone is focused. We are studying and quizzing one another to make sure we succeed as a whole. If one of our brothers falls behind on information for the test, we all come together to help him understand the class material a little better.

It was down to business as usual after the weekly test in Bert S.’s class today. Our objective was to practice our elevator pitches and share feedback as a class, which was inspiring, educational and fun. Bert S.’s lecture focused on topics like being personal, truthful, knowing your customers and being specific so everyone understands your idea. It was inspiring how my classmates expressed positive feedback along with supportive, personal experiences that helped others improve their own pitches. It was a true demonstration of servant-leader mentality with “…the overriding responsibilities to be of service to others.”

This morning Spring ‘18 was called out for an “Issues and Tissues” session for Bert S.’s test we took yesterday. After we had the chance to express our questions and concerns, we watched a few clips about elevator pitches to help us with our own presentations, which we will present next weekend. Harvey M. came in and talked to us about one of our 10 Driving Values: Fresh Start Outlook. We were released for chow to go eat, then we returned to the PEP classroom to listen to our second guest speaker Kristie W. She spoke on Servant-Leader Mentality (another one of our 10 Driving Values). Overall, it was a very productive day for the Soldiers of Spring ‘18 class.

Today we were supposed to have a test for Living in the Village. All of us were looking forward to getting the test done and out of the way, but the PEP instructors ended up not calling us to class. However, it felt good to have a day off to take care of our other assignments. This allowed us to add an extra day to our weekend. Monday it’s back to business though. Focus, focus, focus!

Each and every one of us is completely unique. None of us is the same by any means. Although we may have similar characteristics and attributes, we’re all peculiar in our own way.
God also gave each of us specific spiritual gifts that are intricately designed to bring Him glory and serve His purpose. Some of us are talented speakers; some are talented teachers; some of us are talented athletes; and still others are talented preachers. Whatever our talents may be, it is important that we understand not only what our talents are and where they came from, but also who gave them to us in the first place.
It only takes one person to make a difference in this world. All you have to do is realize your purpose and step into it boldly, then let God take care of the rest. You’ll never look back at the old you again.
